Everything Wrong With Pixar’s Cars 2Everything Wrong With Pixar’s Cars 2

Who doesn’t know the iconic Lighting McQueen “Ka-chow” catchphrase? He’s an icon of animation, so when Pixar released Cars 2 in 2011, it was met with a lot of anticipation. Despite being the most anticipated Pixar sequel animated movie, unfortunately, Cars 2 was not as well-received as the first movie, in which all the classic cars are extremely loved by Beverly Hills Car Club. In fact, many people believe that it is one of Pixar’s worst films. You might think this was just because of its lack of potential, but there are a few legit reasons why the movie failed. So let’s take a look at some of the reasons why this animated movie didn’t live up to its predecessor.

Straying Too Far From the Original Film Concept

Okay, let’s be honest. Everyone loves thrilling action sequences in movies, especially animated ones. However, Cars 2 strayed too far from the original concept of the first movie—which was basically a race car story with an underlying theme of friendship and family values. Instead, it focused heavily on action scenes and espionage. This lack of focus on character development and family values made the movie feel disconnected from the original film. In fact, it’s almost impossible to tell that the movie is related to Cars considering the drastic change in plot.

Mater, Mater, and Mater

caracterNot that I hate this sidekick character, but Mater was just too much for this movie. He’s a classic sidekick character who provides comedic relief throughout the movie. While many fans can appreciate his presence in the first film, he is definitely overused in Cars 2. In fact, during some scenes, it almost felt like the entire movie revolved around him rather than focusing on the main characters. The focus shifted from Lightning McQueen’s story to Mater and his spy adventures, making the storyline more confusing and convoluted.

Poor Character Development

The thing that made the first movie so great was the character development and how it showcased a sense of friendship and family values. Unfortunately, Cars 2 lacks in this area compared to its predecessor. While Lightning McQueen remains an iconic character, we don’t get to see enough of his personality or growth throughout the movie. His character basically remains the same, which is a big letdown since he was such an interesting and dynamic character in the first film.

Weak Storyline

Cars 2 didn’t have a very strong storyline either. The movie was essentially about Lightning McQueen and his friends competing in the World Grand Prix and then getting involved in a spy mission by mistake. This could have been an exciting story, especially with all the action sequences, but it fell flat because of its weak plot. The storyline was too basic, with no interesting twists or turns, and it felt like it just dragged on without any real substance.

Overall, Cars 2 is a huge disappointment for fans of the original movie. It strayed too far away from its concept in an attempt to make it more action-packed and had poor character development, a weak storyline, and too much Mater. It’s a shame that such a beloved franchise could fall so flat, but it’s good to know that Pixar can learn from its mistakes and continue making notable animated films. There are still hopes of the Cars movie series being saved in the future, but until then, let’s just enjoy what we have and remember the good times.…
